Next week the Agency is hosting a workshop in London on food incident prevention and horizon scanning, in co-operation with EFSA - the European Food Safety Authority.
We're expecting 150 people from more than 20 countries to attend the event, which takes place on 5-6 March. I'm pleased it's taking place as it's very timely for us.
The topics under discussion are relevant to our revised strategic plan targets, but it also marks a first step towards delivering EFSA’s strategy on scientific co-operation.
I will be particularly interested to hear what discussion there is around the challenge I threw down in my blog on 8 February: Is food safety a competitive issue or not?
But I also hope the workshop will discuss how we can all learn from the experiences of food safety problems and make the best use of data and information held by different parts of the food supply chain. And how this might also link in to the debate on 'earned autonomy.'
The workshop will also provide a valuable opportunity for building and strengthening links with many key players in the food industry.
