More about the blog
We will read and respond to your comments as often as we can, but if you want to raise a specific issue about the Agency’s work, it’s generally best to check out the Contact us section on the website first to find out who you should be talking to.
I’m looking forward to seeing how this blog will supplement the other ways we use, such as open board meetings, media interviews, and our websites, to demonstrate our core values. These are:
- putting consumers first
- being an independent voice
- being open and transparent about what we do
The Agency is a UK-wide body – a non-ministerial Government department – operating at arm’s length from Ministers and governed by a Board appointed to act in the public interest. Our Strategic Plan 2005-10 explains what we do in more detail.
More about the Agency and Science
At the Agency we believe in harnessing the best science, evidence and independent analysis to assess the risks on a specific food-related issue and find the best ways of dealing with them. At all times we aim to be honest about risks and uncertainties, particularly when we’re dealing with emerging issues, where information is often incomplete or uncertain.
We will always put emerging evidence into the public domain if there is a public health risk, highlighting any uncertainties clearly.
We will also ensure evidence is valid through peer review by independent experts, and, again, we will explain clearly how we have done this.
By marrying the best physical and natural scientific evidence with social science research and assessment by independent experts, we can continue to develop solutions that are scientifically sound, effective in practice and acceptable to the public.
